Manganese
Active
Description
Manganese plays a tole in oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid metabolism, and synthesis of proteins, mucopolysaccharides, and cholesterol. Toxicity from inhalation produces symptoms mimicking Wilson's disease and Parkinson's disease.
Veterinary Medicine:
The potential for manganese toxicity in livestock is limited except when dietary intake of other minerals is marginal. Studies suggest fish may be more sensitive to manganese toxicity than mammals or birds.
