Description
Giant platelets are abnormally large platelets 7-15 microns in size. They are associated with inherited giant platelet disorders (IGPDs), a group of rare disorders characterized by thrombocytopenia, giant platelets, and a tendency to bleeding. IGPDs include Bernard-Soulier syndrome (BSS), velocardiofacial syndrome (VCFS), May-Hegglin anomaly (MHA), Epstein syndrome, and Mediterranean macrothrombocytopenia.
