Description
Basophilic stippling represents the spontaneous aggregation of ribosomal RNA in the cytoplasm of erythrocytes. The accumulation of these dots is pathologic and has been associated with sideroblastic anemia, lead poisoning, megaloblastic anemia and possibly beta thalassemia.
