Enterobacteriaceae.carbapenem resistant
Active
Description
Carbapenem resistant enterobacteriaceae (CRE), are a family of gram-negative bacteria that are difficult to treat because they have high levels of resistance to antibiotics. Klebsiella sp. and Escherichia coli (E. coli) are examples of enterobacteriaceae, a normal part of the human intestinal flora, that can become carbapenem resistant. Types of CRE are sometimes known as KPC (Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase) and NDM (New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactamase). People that are healthy usually do not get CRE infections.[CDC] Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae in Healthcare Settings
