Heptachlor
Active
Description
Heptachlor is a white to tan, waxy organochlorine that was used to treat termites and other insects. It is toxic to humans and animals, causing irritability, salivation and dizziness when recurrently inhaled or exposed in and around the mouth. Heptachlor production gradually ended in the 1980s, but remains in the soil and in hazardous waste sites. The paramount danger of heptachlor is to the environment since it is slow to decompose and it bioaccumulates in the food chain. Heptachlor is a probable human carcinogen.[PubChem:3589] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
