Description
Carbaryl is a colorless to gray crystal carbamate insecticide that is effective against more than one hundred species of insects. It is used on citrus fruit, cotton, forests, lawns, nuts, ornamental plants, shade trees, crops, poultry, livestock and pets. Carbaryl ranges from moderately to extremely toxic and must carry the signal word WARNING on its label. It is toxic to humans when in contact with or absorbed by the skin, inhaled, or ingested. If excessive amounts of carbaryl are inhaled or ingested, toxicity to the nervous system and respiratory system can occur causing symptoms of nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhea, excessive salivation, sweating, blurring of vision, loss of coordination, and convulsions. Carbaryl is toxic to aquatic organisms and some wild bird species. It can bioaccumulate in catfish, crawfish, snails, algae, and duckweed.[http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/carbaryl-dicrotophos/carbaryl-ext.html] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
