Descriptions

Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) is a direct metabolite of ethanol, which is formed by enzymatic conjugation of ethanol with glucuronic acid. Alcohol in the urine is normally detected for only a few hours versus several days for EtG. EtG, therefore, can be used to monitor compliance programs for abstinence from alcohol. Ethyl sulphate (EtS) is a direct metabolite of ethanol and a biomarker for recent alcohol consumption. Because the EtS pathway is different than Ethyl glcuronide (EtG), but the window of assessment similar, running the assays together may increase sensitivity.
