Description
Dengue viruses are in the Flavivirus genus of the Flaviviridae family. Flaviviruses are enveloped, single-strand RNA viruses. The genomic RNA encodes three structural proteins, C (core protein), M (membrane protein), and E (envelope protein). The nonstructural (NS) proteins are NS1, NS2a, NS2b, NS3, NS4a, NS4b, and NS5. NS1 is a glycoprotein that appears to be essential for virus viability but has no established biological activity. NS1 is produced in both membrane-associated and secreted forms.
