Description
Streptococcus pyogenes is an important cause of pharyngitis as well as more severe infections, including sepsis and toxic shock syndrome. The csrS gene is associated with S pyogenes virulence, and therefore, its presence in clinical specimens can be used to identify this organism as one of the pathogens responsible for a specific infection.
