Version 2.78

Description

Streptococcus agalactiae (group B Streptococcus) is one of the primary causes of sepsis and neonatal meningitis and has also been associated with infections in immunosuppressed patients. All S agalactiae contain the cfb gene, which encodes CAMP factor, one of the proteins responsible for the organism's virulence. Detection of the cfb gene in clinical specimens can help identify S agalactiae as the infectious agent. PMID: 22407941 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 22407941
