Bacterial cephalosporin resistance blaCTX-M gene
Active
Description
The bacterial (CTX-M) gene is targeted to detect CTX-M type beta lactamases, a group of class A extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) that are a common cause of community-acquired infections. They exhibit powerful activity against cefotaxime and ceftriaxoane. CTX-M type ESBLs are rapidly spreading among Enterobacteriaceae worldwide and replacing TEM-type and SHV-type beta lactamases as the predominant ESBLs in many countries. They originate from Kluyvera species and can be separated into 5 different groups: CTX-M-1, CTX-M-2, CTX-M-9, CTX-M-8, and CTX-M-25. CTX-M2, CTX-M3, and CTX-M14 are the most prevelant. More than 80 CTX-M allotypes are currently known (2014). Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID:18154526
