Hepatocyte growth factor receptor
Active
Description
Hepatocyte growth factor receptor (HGFR, also known as mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET or c-MET]) is a transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor that transduces signals from the extracellular matrix into the cytoplasm by binding to hepatocyte growth factor/HGF ligand. [UniProt: P08581] The HGFR is a product of the MET gene and is important to oncogenesis and normal cellular function. It regulates many physiological processes including proliferation, scattering, morphogenesis and survival. The HGFR can be overexpressed in epithelial cancers, such as lung cancer. The overexpression of c-MET is thought to allow for cell migration and invasion leading to metastasis as well as growth advantage. PMID: 24005867 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
