9q34 chromosome region
Active
Description
A deletion of chromosome region 9q34 is associated with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Most patients with CML have the characteristic t(9;22) (q34;q11.2) translocation that results in fusion of the BCR and ABL1 genes. A small subset of CML cases have the 9q34 deletion, which is associated with poor prognosis in CML patients under treatment with interferon therapy. PMID: 19222642 Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH) is used to detect deletion of the 9q34 region around the argininosuccinate synthetase (ASS) gene. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
