Active
Description
S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is the major methyl donor involved in enzymatic transmethylation reactions in proteins, DNA, phospholipids and neurotransmitters. It plays a key role in the maintenance of human health and in the prevention of disease. PMID: 9300919 Decreased SAMe levels often occur in the presence of folate and cobalamin (vitamin B12) deficiency. PMID: 23538072 Low SAMe levels have been associated with depression, dementia, and liver disease. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
