Description

Lurasidone (brandname Latuda) is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia and depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder. It can be used alone or in combination with lithium or valproate. Movement abnormalities, akathisia, Parkinsonism, dystonia, as well as agitation, anxiety, somnolence, nausea and drowsiness are the most frequent adverse effects. PMID: 31082101 As of September 2019, lurasidone has a black box warning for "increased mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis; and suicidal thoughts and behaviors."
