Mycophenolate acyl-glucuronide
Active
Description
Mycophenolic acid (MPA) or mycophenolate is an immunosuppressant drug used to prevent rejection after solid-organ transplant as well as graft-vs-host disease prophylaxis after hematopoietic stem cell transplant. MPA is highly bound to albumin and the unbound fraction of MPA is approximately 1−3% of the total. MPA is glucuronidated in the liver, primarily to an inactive metabolite, mycophenolic acid glucuronide, and partially to an active metabolite, mycophenolic acid acyl-glucuronide. Drug levels of MPA and its metabolites are used to adjust drug dosing and monitor patient adherence. MPA is commonly marketed under the trade names CellCept (mycophenolate mofetil; Roche) and Myfortic (mycophenolate sodium; Novartis). PMID: 25624121 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 25624121
