Blastomyces dermatitidis drk1 & Histoplasma capsulatum gapdh genes
Active
Description
Blastomyces dermatitidis and Histoplasma capsulatum are dimorphic fungi that often cause self-limited respiratory infections, however they may also cause severe disseminated disease, depending on the level of the exposure to the organism and the host immune status. Patients infected by these two fungi may have very similar clinical presentations, making identification important for patient care. Primary infections are acquired through inhalation of microconidia that are present in the environment. In the United States, most cases of blastomycosis and histoplasmosis occur along the Ohio and Mississippi River valleys. PMID: 21752970 Source: Regenstrief LOINC , PMID: 21752970
