Betula verrucosa recombinant (rBet v) 6
Active
Description
Betula verrucosa (Bet v) 6 is an antigen on birch pollen known to cause mild allergic reactions in sensitized individuals. It is also an isoflavone reductase (IFR) which is a protein produced by plants when they are under stress. IFRs are found on many other plants including apples, pears, bananas, and mangos. The Bet v 6 antigen has been shown to be 56-80% similar to IFRs present on other plants and may be the cause of pollen-related oral allergy to some foods and in small numbers of patients sensitized to birch pollen. Thirty-two percent of patients with birch pollen sensitivity have been shown to react to Bet v 6 while 89% reacted to Bet v 1. Bet v 6 is considered a minor allergen.(http://www.phadia.com/Products/Allergy-testing-products/ImmunoCAP-Allergen-Information/Tree-Pollens/Allergen-Components/rBet-v-1-PR-10-Birch/) Source: Regenstrief LOINC
