Titin
Active
Description
The titin protein plays a role in the assembly and functioning of striated muscles by connecting individual microfilaments, and may play a role in chromosome condensation and segregation during mitosis in non-muscle cells. [UniProt: Q8WZ42] Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease mediated by antibodies against the acetylcholine receptor (AChR) in the postsynaptic membrane of the motor end plate, but antibodies against other targets, including titin, also play an important role. Anti-titin autoantibodies are also a sensitive marker for thymoma, which is often associated with MG, especially in patients with MG who are younger than 60 years old.
