Human papilloma virus 16 E6+E7 mRNA
Active
Description
Human papilloma virus (HPV) is a double-stranded DNA virus that includes 120 types that infect cutaneous and mucosal epithelial cells. The HPV that infect the cervix are categorized as low or high risk depending upon their carcinogenicity. High risk HPV types can lead to low-grade cervical cell abnormalities, pre-cancerous cellular abnormalities and anogenital cancer. Type 16 is a high risk HPV and is implicated in roughly 50% of cervical cancers around the world. E6/E7 genes in cervical tumors interfere with the control of cell proliferation and cell division and can be used for targeted anti-cancer therapy. PMID: 9448307 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
