Version 2.77

Description

Small ubiquitin-like modifier 1 (SUMO-1) is one of four enzymes in the SUMO family which plays a key role in posttranslational protein modification. SUMO-1 consists of the SUMO-1 activating enzyme A subunit (SAE1) and the SUMO-1 activating enzyme B subunit (SAE2), which have molecular weights of 40kD and 90kD, respectively. The SUMO family has been associated with diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and primary biliary cirrhosis. SAE1 and SAE2 have been found in patients with dermatomyositis (DM) associated with widespread skin involvement, dysphagia, and interstitial pneumonia. Patients with DM without these specific associated symptoms are typically anti-SAE antibody negative. PMID: 17763420 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 17763420
