Version 2.77

Description

Antinuclear antibodies are essential to diagnose systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs) such as Lupus erythematosus and scleroderma. However, 20-30% of healthy people test positive for ANAs,half of which are dense fine speckled 70 protein (DFS70) antibodies. DFS70 antibodies have been found in patients with various chronic inflammatory diseases but no one disease in particular. It has been suggested that the best use for measuring DFS70 antibodies might be as a biomarker that excludes the diagnosis of SARD since DFS70 antibodies are more often found in patients without active SARD than with it. Antibody titers of DFS70 are highest in healthy young females and the titers decline as a person ages.( http://cli-online.com/featured-articles/anti-dfs70-antibodies-detection-and-significance/) Source: Regenstrief LOINC
