Description
Melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) senses intracellular pathogens. Through a complex cascade of intracellular interactions with a myriad of activators and regulators MDA5 contributes to the production of interferon-alpha and pro-inflammatory chemokines and cytokines. Antibodies to MDA5 have been linked to a subtype of dermatomyositis (DM) associated with low-grade to absent muscle inflammation, acute skin manifestations, hyperferritinemic status, frequent and rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (ILD) and a poor prognosis.( https://clinicalmolecularallergy.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12948-015-0031-y) Source: Regenstrief LOINC
