Influenza virus A RNA tissue culture infective dose 50 (TCID50) is an estimate of the infectious virus titer. Host cells are incubated with serial dilutions of a virus-containing specimen, and the percentage of cell death is recorded for each dilution. The TCID50 result is calculated from the results of the serial dilution procedure by methods such as that published by Reed and Muench (Reed, L.J., Muench, H., 1938.
