Bacterial carbapenem resistance blaSPM gene
Active
Description
Studies in Brazil have shown that SPM is the prevalent Metallo beta-lactamase (MBL) in that country. SPM carbapenemase is the main mechanism of resistance to ceftazidime on ceftazidime-resistant P. aeruginosa found in blood isolates. Despite being restricted to hospitals for several years, due to human travel, the SPM gene is now being seen globally.
