Disulfoton
Active
Description
Disulfoton is a selective, systemic organophosphate insecticide and acaricide. It is notably toxic to sucking insects, aphids, leafhoppers, thrips, beet flies, spider mites, and coffee leaf miners. The cultivated plants to which disulfoton is applied include cotton, tobacco, sugar beets, cole crops, peanuts, wheat, ornamental plants, cereal grains, and potatoes. Disulfoton is extremely toxic to mammals if it is inhaled, ingested or absorbed through the skin. Early symptoms of exposure to disulfoton include blurred vision, fatigue, headache, dizziness, sweating, tearing, and salivation. Symptoms of high dose exposure include defecation, urination, fluid accumulation in the lungs, convulsions, and coma. If the exposure level is high enough, death due to respiratory failure and/or constriction of the trachea can result. Disulfoton is dangerously toxic to cold and warm fish, crab, shrimp, birds, and other wildlife. Disulfoton is not classified as a carcinogen.[http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/dienochlor-glyphosate/disulfoton-ext.html] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
