Cerumen
Active
Description
Cerumen (earwax) is a brown, yellowish waxy substance secreted by the ceruminous and sebaceous glands of the outside ear canal. It cleans, protects and lubricates the ear canal. Accumulation of cerumen (impaction) can lead to partial or complete obstruction of the ear canal, potentially causing hearing loss and preventing assessment of the ear.
