Version 2.77

Description

Scedosporium prolificans is a fungus found in soil and polluted waters that is closely related to Pseudoallescheria boydii and S apiospermum, all of which cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients. S prolificans is also associated with respiratory and central nervous system infections in patients with near-drowning victims who inhale contaminated water. S prolificans is widely resistant to available antifungal medications. PMID: 24684242 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
