Description
Scedosporium prolificans is a fungus found in soil and polluted waters that is closely related to Pseudoallescheria boydii and S apiospermum, all of which cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients. S prolificans is also associated with respiratory and central nervous system infections in patients with near-drowning victims who inhale contaminated water.
