Cystinuria panel
Active
Description
Cystinuria is a rare metabolic disorder in which the transport of specific amino acids (cystine, lysine, arginine, and ornithine) in the intestines and kidneys is impaired. Patients with cystinuria have high levels of cystine in the urine; undissolved (insoluble) cystine can lead to stones in the kidney, bladder, and/or ureter. High levels of lysine, arginine, and ornithine are also present in the urine of patients with cystinuria, but these substances are more soluble than cystine and do not cause specific symptoms.
