Platelet aggregation
Active
Descriptions
The attachment of platelets to one another. This clumping together can be induced by a number of agents such as thrombin and collagen and leads to the formation of a thrombus. Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006
Platelet aggregation evaluates the functional integrity of platelets. Test agents for stimulation include ADP, collagen, epinephrine, ristocetin, thrombin and arachidonic acid. Different abnormalities are detected by evaluating the response to these stimulators. Studies are usually performed after screening tests (platelet count, PT, PTT, vWD workup) for bleeding disorders are found normal. Source: Regenstrief Institute
