Glucose post glucagon stimulation panel
Active
Description
A glucagon stimulation test (also called glucagon challenge test) is used to help diagnose the etiology of hypoglycemia. A baseline glucose is measured, followed by glucagon administration and subsequent glucose measurement at specific intervals. An increase in glucose concentration post glucagon is indicative of hyperinsulinism, while a lack of response to glucagon indicates that insufficient glycogen is available. Glycogen insufficiency could be due to a variety of disorders, including those related to glycogen production, storage, or metabolism, fatty acid oxidation, and cortisol or growth hormone deficiency.
