Version 2.78

Description

Carisoprodol (N-isopropylmeprobamate, Soma, ingredient of Soma Compound) is a carbamate derivative first synthesized in 1959 and used clinically as a muscle relaxant and sedative. Carisoprodol is known to be metabolized to meprobamate and hydroxyl-meprobamate.
Meprobamate is the major metabolite of carisoprodol, and is a CNS depressant in its own right, indicated for the management of anxiety disorders or for short-term treatment of anxiety symptoms. Use of these drugs begins with a prescription for muscular pain or anxiety, and abuse may develop for the sedative-hypnotic effects. Source: LOINC partner 1
