Description
Nuclear medicine brain death scans assess the blood flow to the brain. The absence of radionuclide activity within the brain is consistent with the diagnosis of brain death but is not in itself sufficient to make the diagnosis. Scintigraphy and EEG are considered confirmatory tests for brain death, while clinical exam and 4-vessel cerebral angriography are considered diagnostic.
