Version 2.78

Description

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a blood bank agent that reduces antibody screening incubation time by excluding water and therefore packing red cells closer together during centrifugation. PEG may enhance the expression of warm antibodies and auto-antibodies. A downside to PEG is that use may lead to false positive reactions at 37C from nonspecific agglutination. An advantage of PEG use is that it may provide greater sensitivity than LISS or albumin. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
