Version 2.78

Descriptions

MET gene amplification studies evaluate the number of copies of the MET gene present in a single cell. Amplification is determined based on the MET gene copy number and MET to centromere ratio. Different criteria have been proposed for what constitutes amplification, including a MET to centromere ratio of >= 2, an average MET gene copy number >=5, and at least 15 gene copies in 10% of the tumor cell nuclei that were counted. MET amplification is associated with worse prognosis in a variety of cancers, including non-small cell lung and gastroesophageal cancer. PMID: 27926778 Source: Regenstrief LOINC

The ratio of MET signals per nucleus to chromosome 7 signals per nucleus is used to determine if MET gene amplification has occurred. MET amplification is a biomarker for different types of cancer, including non-small cell lung cancer. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
