Coxsackievirus B1 Ab
Active
Description
Coxsackievirus B1 (CVB1) is a serotype of the human enterovirus B (HEV-B) species. CVB1 has a strong association with systemic neonatal infections including meningoencephalitis, myocarditis, sepsis, and hepatitis. CVB1 is also a risk factor for insulin-dependent diabetes and polymyositis. Entrovirus (EV) outbreaks occur annually in tropical areas. HEV-B, specifically CVA9, CVB1, CVB3, and CVB5 may be involved in the pathogenesis of childhood diabetes. CVB1 was shown to be related to autoimmune destruction of pancreatic b-cells. The EV genome and antibodies against CVB1 can be found in sera of prediabetic children several years before the onset of diabetic symptoms.
