MYCN gene amplification
Active
Description
MYCN gene amplification studies evaluate the number of copies of the MYCN gene present in a single cell to aid in determining the prognosis of neurobastoma (NBL) patients. The MYCN gene encodes for a protein involved in the formation of tissues and organs during fetal development. It can also be an oncogene that regulates gene transcription. Amplification is determined based on the MYCN gene copy number and MYCN to centromere ratio (CEP2). An MYCN/CEP2 ratio of >= 2.0 is an indication of aggressive tumor progression of neuroblastoma.
