Version 2.77

Description

2,3-Dinor-11beta-prostaglandin F2 alpha (2,3-BPG) is a metabolic product of prostaglandins released by activated mast cells. Accumulation of mast cells in peripheral tissue is associated with a mast cell activation disease (MCAD), including systemic mastocytosis (SM). Degranulation of mast cells releases large amounts of histamines, prostaglandins (including 2,3-BPG), leukotrienes, and tryptase. Quantitation of 2,3 BPG levels along with leukotriene E4 (LTE4) and N-methyl histamine (NMH) are used for the screening of SM. PMID: 26908217 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
