Description
O'nyong-nyong virus (ONNV) was isolated in 1959 in Gulu, Uganda. Following the discovery ONNV has been responsible for several outbreaks in humans that occurred in East Africa. ONNV belongs in the family Togaviridae, genus Alphavirus [NCBI Taxonomy: 2169701]. ONNV is a mosquito-borne arthritogenic alphavirus PMID: 32477364. Vectors include Anopheles funestus and A. gambiae. ONNV produces symptoms of fever, headache, joint pains, and rash PMID: 16965706 . Source: Regenstrief LOINC
