Description
Oropharyngeal wash, also known as gargle, oral rinse or throat wash, includes a sampling of the entire oral cavity, including the oropharyngeal, nasopharynx, tongue, saliva, larynx and oral mucosa. The gargle sample collection method involves a patient gargling a sterile saline solution and spitting it into a collection tube. The sample may be used for the molecular detection of various respiratory infections, including SARS coronavirus 2 (COVID-19). Source: LOINC
