Description
Providencia rettgeri is a urease-producing gram-negative bacteria in the Enterobacteriaceae family that is often found in water, soil, and animal reservoirs. It is often the cause of significant opportunistic infections among hospitalized patients and elderly residents in nursing homes associated with long-term indwelling urinary catheter use leading to UTIs. It is very resistant to antibiotics. PMID: 25750557
