Acetate esterase stain
Active
Description
Alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) staining, also known as acetate esterase, identifies monocytes, macrophages and histiocytes, and it does not stain granulocytes. ANAE is also specific for T-lymphocytes but does not stain B-lymphocytes; therefore it can be used to determine the T-lymphocyte to B-lymphocyte ratio. ANAE is one type of non-specific esterase, and the other is alpha-naphthyl butyrate esterase. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
