Description
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a Gram-negative pathogen that is associated with a variety of diseases, including peptic ulcer disease (PUD), atrophic gastritis, mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and gastric cancer. H. pylori is the cause of more than 75% of PUD cases and nearly 75% of gastric cancer that do not involve the cardia. H. pylori molecular assays are used to diagnose infection in various types of specimens including gastric biopsy and stool samples. There are a variety of targets, including ureA, glmM, ureC, 16S rRNA, 23S rRNA, hsp60, and vacA. PMID: 26523098 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
