Norcodeine
Active
Description
Norcodeine is one of several metabolites of codeine which is an opiate derived from the poppy plant Papaver somniferum. Most of codeine is metabolized in the liver and 10-15% of it is converted by N-demethylation to norcodeine by CYP3A4. Norcodeine has about the same affinity for the mu opioid receptor as codeine which is 200 times less than that of morphine. [https://www.pharmgkb.org/pathway/PA146123006] Norcodeine has very little opioid activity.[https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Norcodeine] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
