Citrulline is an alpha amino acid produced from ornithine and carbamoyl phosphate during the urea cycle. Increases occur in type I and type II citrullinemia. Mutations in the Arginosuccinate synthetase (ASS) gene cause type I citrullinemia. Mutations in the SLC25A13 gene cause type II citrullinemia. (Information from Wikipedia 9/14/06).
