Human upstream binding factor
Active
Description
Human upstream binding factor (hUBF) is a nucleolar protein that plays a key role in rRNA production. The protein regulates rDNA transcription and also promotes rRNA synthesis. DNA binding to hUBF has the potential to alter chromatin by inducing chromatin remodeling. PMID: 25965800 Autoantibodies to hUBF (anti-hUBF) are associated with various connective tissue diseases, including systemic sclerosis, Raynaud's disease, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Anti-hUBF antibodies have also been associated with some malignancies. Anti-hUBF and anti-nucleolus-organizing region (NOR) 90 antibodies were originally described as distinct entities but later were recognized as being the same.
