EDDP (2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl1-3,3-diphenylpyrrolidine) is a primary metabolite of methadone, a synthetic opioid used for the treatment of opioid dependence. It is excreted in bile and urine along with other another methadone metabolite, EMPD. Levels of methadone itself are variable and depend on a patient's urine pH value, dose given, and metabolism. EDDP levels are less variable and can be detected 4 to 6 hours after methadone use, therefore, EDDP is preferentially used to check for methadone exposure. Source: Regenstrief Institute
