Isoleucine+Leucine [Presence] in Urine
Active
Part Description
LP18675-6 Isoleucine+Leucine
Leucine, an essential amino acid isomeric with isoleucine, is the most common amino acid found in proteins. It is required for optimal growth in infancy and childhood and for nitrogen equilibrium in adults. It is also involved in maintaining muscles mass by equalizing synthesis and breakdown of proteins. The major food sources of leucine are whole grains, milk and milk products, eggs, meat, soy beans, and leafy vegetables. Leucine toxicity, as seen in decompensated Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD), causes delirium and neurologic compromise, and can be life-threatening.

- Changed answer list from "Normative" to "Example" to fit the current LOINC model.; The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
