Colistin (polymyxin E1 and E2) is a polymyxin antibiotic produced by certain strains of Bacillus polymyxa var. colistinus. Colistin is a mixture of cyclic polypeptides colistin A and B and is effective against Gram-negative bacilli, except Proteus.
