Bartonella henselae is a fastidious gram negative rod bacteria and the causative agent in most cases of Cat Scratch Disease. PMID: 12636034 Humans are most often infected through a bite or scratch from a cat. Presence of bartonella henselae DNA is best detected through a combination of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in and indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) is used in serologic studies.
